Kids Should Not be Assigned Homework by Alapaki N.
“Stress is just another word for Homework” -unknown.

Everyone should not have any stress when they come home because they have 5 hours of homework to do.  Studies have shown that not giving kids homework reduces on average 55% of stress.  And, even though some kids like homework, there are still more kids who don't.

Kids should not have any stress but homework gives stress.  Doing homework is just a waste of time, when instead kids could be spending time with family, or playing a game of basketball.  Homework also should be done at school because what if you are struggling on a math problem? You would want your teacher's help not your parents.  And, when you do ask your parents for help they may not even know the answer.  This can make you get stressed out even more because now you have to wait till the next day for help.

Kids should not have homework because no kid even likes more things to do after school.  Basically homework is like school at home.  Instead of being inside doing more schoolwork, you could be doing fun things like sports or games.  Also, homework stacks up and, and up like a brick wall.  So by the time you finish you have to go to bed.

Kids should not have homework because when parents tell you to get outside you have to say no because your math teacher assigned too much homework.  So think about that!  Basically you just rejected a good time outside doing things you love because of how many hours and hours you spend on homework.

Wi-Fi by Lainey E.

She travels a lot out of the country where there is no service, and she loves to post things and to take pictures of things, but you need Wi-Fi on your cellular device in order to do all of these things. So, what can she do so she won't have to pay as much money for it? She should get Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi allows people to always have service, it is cheaper than paying out of pocket each time you need it, it helps with work, and it benefits social interactions, and can help kids with their homework.
People depend on social media and much of their lives depend upon Wi-Fi. For example, they need Wi-Fi to go onto social media. Additionally, people post things on social media so they can keep in touch with family and friends no matter where they are. So, if people don't always have service, then family members might become worried and friends may lose contact. Therefore, it is important for everyone to have continual service.
When people have Wifi they have to pay a monthly fee. However, regional plans make connecting to Wi-Fi easy and affordable. Rates can be as low as $9.95 for a monthly cost. So getting your own monthly cost is better because what you pay is cheaper than always having to use cellular data to access the internet.
Wi-Fi is important to most people because when you have service you are able to make direct calls using the internet, forward messages, get to places and find things to do on the web. It is important that you have Wi-Fi access because you might get lost somewhere and not know where to go.
Parents think that when kids use Wi-Fi that it is only for the bad reasons and it just makes their life and education worse. However, even parents use Wi-Fi for important things, like trying to find a website that will help their children to have a better education.
“Teenagers who do not have the internet are at a serious disadvantage in their education, a study shows. Those without, have a strong sense of being 'educationally disadvantaged'", according to a survey of over a thousand households and interviews with more than two hundred teenagers and their families” says the (Prigg)
Wi-Fi also has a better connection than a wired connection and it loads faster. The Wi-Fi is cheaper and you can take it wherever you want and you can have service and you can direct call, forward messages and you can find where you want to go. It is also very reliable because when you have your own WiFi someone is less likely to hack your connection and to use it.

Hey Parents! Responsibility Doesn’t Come Cheap! By Tyler O.

One day Bob’s mom wanted to teach Bob about money. She started giving him an allowance. Bob’s mom used his allowance to teach Bob about finances. With his allowance, he learned how to use and handle money and he learned some good qualities too. When Bob got older, he turned out to make a lot of money and turned out very successful in life. When you give a children an allowance, they can learn good qualities and they can get a head start in finances.
Have you ever wondered how some people turn out so good in finances? They had an allowance! A recent study found that kids who grew up with an allowance turned out better in managing their finances and money when they turned into adults than children that did not get an allowance growing up. This proves the statement “When you give your child an allowance they will be ready for life and money” (Cummins). Another statement that can back this up is “Children can really learn about money and spend it. If they don’t have any, it’s like putting them in the world all alone without knowing how to survive” (Cummins).
When you give your child an allowance it can help him or her to build good qualities (Williams). For example, you can teach your child the quality of giving by having them donate some of their allowance to charity. Or, you can also teach them the quality of responsibility because they will learn how to deal with their own money (Renzulli).
Some people argue that giving a child an allowance makes him or her begin to think that he or she is entitled to an award for the things that they do. However, allowance has more potential than being an award.  To avoid having a child see allowance as an award, it shouldn’t be linked to chores.  Instead, it should be used to teach children finances and good personal qualities. For example, saving money teaches a child responsibility. Another example is that when you teach your child to donate to charity you teach generosity.
Children really should get allowance so that in the future they will have an easier time in life (with money). It can also teach them good personal qualities. Also, allowance should not be used as an award. This is why children should get allowances.

Kids Should Not Be Assigned Homework By Caden P.

“Stress is just another word for Homework” - unknown.  Nobody should be stressed when they come home because they have 5 hours of homework to do.  Studies have shown that not giving kids homework reduces an average 55% of stress, and even though some kids like homework there are still more kids who don't.

Kids should not have any stress but homework gives stress.  Doing homework just wastes time to spend with family or it even just wastes time for a little game of basketball.  Homework also should be done at school because what if you were struggling on a math problem?  You would want your teacher's help, not your parents.  Even if you do ask your parents for help, they may not know the answer.  This makes you get stressed out even more because you have to wait till the next day for help.

Kids should not have homework because nobody likes having more things to do after school. Basically homework is like school at home.  This is because when you have homework it just takes up all of your time.  Instead, you could be doing fun things like sports or games. Kids should not have homework because when parents tell you to get outside you have to say no  because your math teacher assigned too much homework.  So think about it, basically you have just rejected a good time outside doing things you love just because of how many hours and hours you spend on homework.

Some people might say that homework helps and benefits your learning. But, studies have shown that homework should not   be longer than ten minutes a day. Currently I have at least one - two hours a day. With this much homework I will never get to do other things. If kids continue to have so much homework, they could miss out on having fun. If kids have fun it reduces stress at a minimal of 64% according to “Having Fun: Why It Provides Some Of The Best Stress Relief”.  Now teachers should not give homework to kids.

Kids and Cellular Devices by ʻAlohikea B.

Some people may argue that a kid owning his or her own device is ridiculous!!!! Also, people might think it’s super expensive to pay for service and buy a phone in the first place. But, what they don’t think about is that they are not paying money to benefit just the kid, but that money also benefits the parent. It not only gives parents the comfort that their kids are just one call away, but it also let's parents know where kids are at all times. Using Find My Friends, you can find your child at a friend's house, and or bust them if they are not in school when they are supposed to be. You can also contact them if there is a sudden change of plans. Additionally, they can call you if something happens so that you can come pick them up, or send them to a trusted adult.

Number one, Phones help keep people safe, especially kids. How?? Well, for example, if a kid is at a friend's house and parents don’t know the address of this friend’s house, they can just use Find My Friends. “Not a day goes by where I don’t check her up on Find my Friends. Just to make sure she is, in fact, at school” (Zanten). Anywhere kids go, they can be tracked to make sure they are at the right place.

Number two, most people use cellular devices to contact others. You don’t want your kids walking around with some old fashioned flip phone. “A survey of 12- to 17-year-olds conducted by Ebates found that an iPhone tops the wish list. One third — specifically 32% — of those surveyed want an iPhone” (Elgan). This is because it helps them fit in. It’s super embarrassing if you don’t have a phone and your friends are always talking about new apps like musical.ly.

Number three, another way cell phones keep your kids safe is in the event of natural disasters. “Earthquakes, fires, bad weather, traffic accidents – there are many things that can happen during the day after your children leave the house for school. Cell phones are a lifeline between a parent and their children, and cell phones also can be used to call emergency responders” (Crowe). With a cellphone, you can contact kids if you know something’s going to happen so you can warn them. This is why kids need iphones.

If parents don’t allow their kids to have phones, things may happen without parents knowing. Also, if they are not exposed to technology now, how are kids going to get jobs in the future? I know, most of the jobs in the future will be technology related. If we don’t help kids use technology now, we may never know a lot from the past. When you get that experience, it sticks. Now’s the time to go buy that iphone for your child.

Cheesecake by Justin D.

John came home late at night from work and he walked over to the refrigerator to eat some cheesecake. Then his son Billy told him, “Cheesecake is not healthy because it does not have a lot of protein and vitamins. Instead eat the chocolate cake.” Jhon then told Billy that cheesecake is healthier than this chocolate cake. So, John did some research and discovered that cheesecake has healthy ingredients such as protein and vitamins. With this said, we should eat cheesecake everyday.

When you eat your cheesecake, think about what's in it. You may think that cheesecake is not healthy. However, cheesecake has a lot of protein and vitamins for you (“Self Nutrition Data Know What You Eat” ). Because cheesecake has protein in it, this means that whenever you eat cheesecake you are eating healthy in a way.

Protein is important because it can repair and build bones and muscles. Cheesecake has more protein, less sugar, and 30 percent fewer calories than most cakes. Therefore, by checking the label you can make choices about how to eat healthy.

Did you know cheesecake is also full of vitamins? Cheesecake has vitamin A and vitamin C. Vitamin A can help the human body by developing and growing your bones and muscles (“ SFGate” ). It also can convert almost every food you eat into energy. Who knew that eating a piece of cheesecake could wake wake you up in the morning.

Most people will say that cheesecake is able to give you type-2 diabetes. Or, people might say that when you eat unhealthy desserts you will gain body fat. Well, this will only happen if you eat too many dessert everyday. Other desserts have a lot of sugar and fat. Cheesecake is a healthy dessert because it does not have as much sugar and fat as other desserts.

When you eat cheesecake think about the protein and vitamins. This means that you are eating healthy. Cheesecake does have sugar and fat, but that means don't eat too much everyday.

More Family Time Needed

She works all day and comes home to a noisy house, everyone blasting their electronics so loud, and Jay screaming so loud that the neighbors can hear him from next door. There is no time to exercise, but there is time for kids to drop the electronics and start having family bonding time. Family time offers opportunities for kids to talk about each other's differences, helps family members stay in touch, and to get to know one another better. With all these benefits, people should make time for family time.

Who dosen't want to have a healthy family? Healthy Families  help prevent arguing and splitting up. A recent news article reports that, "More than 50% of families split up by the time they graduate from high school." More family time helps to prevent arguing and splitting up.

More family time can not only prevent arguing and splitting up, it also helps to understand each other's differences at school or at work. “In fact when you have family bonding time your child has a chance to voice their thoughts and feelings" (Fernandez). Additionally, it also helps children to feel like they are being loved and appreciated. With all these benefits why wouldnʻt people want to spend time with their families?

More family time helps others to understand each other better. According to Gail Fernandez they made a program to help parents and children to connect (especially foster kids). Electronics prevent people from spending more quality time with one another. Clearly people worry about losing their families, so they should spend time with them now. ENJOY time together while it lasts.

Some people might argue that they don't have time for family time or their family members aren't interested. It dosen't matter. You should make time to spend with your family, even if they are mean to you or they are irritating. It dosen't matter because they will always be there for you whenever you need them. And if your loved ones aren't interested, encourage them to be. As Desmond Tutu once said, “You don't choose your family they are god's gift to you."

Cellphones by Kaylee W.
According to research, 85% of teens aged 14-17 have cell phones. So do 96% of aged 11-14 year olds, and 31% of kids aged 8-10 (Davis). Despite what some people believe, most of these children actually need phones, especially teens. Teens need phones for many reasons like: it helps parents keep track of children, helps children learn responsibility, keeps children in contact with parents and relatives during after school activities, and it helps children connect with the world in many ways.
Phones help parents keep track of teens when they are out in public, or when they are out with their friends. When teens are out, they tend to wander off. If your child doesn't  have a phone, then you might not have a way to contact or find him or her. As opposed to, if a child does have a phone, then you can easily use a tracking app (like for instance, Find My Friends) to find out where they are. Not only can the parent keep in touch with the child, it also helps teens keep in touch with their parents.
Most teens go to school, and whether it's a public school or a private one, they need a way to get home. Many children ride the bus home on some days, with occasional parent-pickup days. These teens need a way to know how to go home, on car or bus? Well, a phone can help with that! The child can contact the guardian and ask. This is better than taking a chance and possibly making the wrong choice. Having experienced this before, I know that it is scary getting in trouble for not having the right information for how to get home.
If a child has a phone, it helps him or her to learn responsibility. Phones are very valuable, and that's why they sell for so much. But the problem is that they aren't very durable, meaning they crack easily. When a child cracks his or her for the first time it shows him or her how fragile it is and how it should be taken care of. Or if a child doesn't crack it, you know that he or she is responsible enough for some things. When a child first loses a phone, he or she realizes how “hard” life is without the luxury of always social media at your fingertips. So, the child makes sure to never lose it again. When the child makes a wrong decision on a phone, than he or she can learn from it and make sure that the same mistake is never made again! When teens have access to the internet, they can learn about the, always changing, world around them! Even if you don't want them to have access to this, they can learn from their mistakes that they make on the internet!

In conclusion, phones helps teach kids responsibility, they help kids keep in touch with their parents (and vise versa), and lastly, they help teens stay in touch with the world! Thus, this is why teens need phones.

Everyone Should Have Internet by Hulali W.

When she finally gets home from a 20 minute drive from town, she realizes that she didn’t do her internet homework! She quickly scrambles to see if there is anything that she can do, but all she can do is watch the dinosaur run into the cactus on her computer screen. That’s when she realizes her family really should have internet at home. In fact, everyone should have internet at home. About 2,500 or 9% of students don’t have access to the internet. That means that the majority of kids have access to the internet at home. This also goes the same for teenagers and young adults. An American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian, social critic, and political activist, Avram Noam Chomsky once said, “The internet could be a very positive step towards education, organization, and participation in a meaningful society.” The internet can be, and should be, a positive step towards our educational journey.
There is about 91% of students or kids, that have access to the internet at home or when they leave school. “about 9 percent of students, or roughly 2,500 kids, can’t access the internet once they go home, district surveys show” (Monahan). For those 9 percent of students who can't access the internet, “The Federal Communications Commission voted to increase e-rate funding, which provides school districts money to access the Internet. $1.5 billion for a total of $3.9 billion (Monahan).  Obviously the Government recognizes how important the internet is.
There are not only kids that don’t have access to the internet when they go home, there are also teenagers and young adults who don’t have internet once they go home. According to DailyMail.com “The study by Oxford University, Carried out between 2008 and 2011, estimated about ten per cent of the teenagers were without online connectivity at home”(Prigg). Without the internet there are disadvantages to a student's school work.  Much of the work given for homework requires online research or preparation. Another important fact is that teenagers report that they feel shut out of their peer group socially when they do not have internet access (Prigg).  When people feel shut out or can’t accomplish their goals they run the risk of experiencing depression.
The internet has also been a big help with our education, because instead of having to go all the way to the library, we can just pull up Google. “The internet has had an enormous impact on education, streamlining access to information and making it easier for individual to engage in online learning” (Why is the Internet Important).  When people have quick access to the internet it can help them to deepen their understanding of the world around them.
Some people might think that the internet is too expensive or that we might get stuck to our screens all day and all night. However, other people say that the children should be able to limit themselves when it comes to screen time. Additionally, people should be mature enough to avoid inappropriate sites. If families do not have Internet at home, there might be consequences like lower grades, because homework is not turned in. There is also the possibility that there will be less socialization with peers.
So not only does the internet help with a person’s education and their social life, it also helps children develop maturity and teaches them to make the right decisions when no one is looking.  In conclusion, everyone should have internet at home.

Bigger Bed by Caleb Schoen
Alapaki just got home from football practice at 8:00 pm.  He was really tired.  He just ran 8 laps around the football field and 10 suicides.  He got bullied a lot at school by Justice.  When he FINALLY got home he was relieved because he showered, changed, ate and immediately went to sleep in his new bigger better bed.  Recent studies show the wrong mattress can cause both a crick in your neck and lower back pain.  This is especially if your bed is 15 cm below your actual height.  Some benefits to owning a bigger bed include getting better sleep and zapping your stress.
Do you like to feel good?  Then you should get a new bigger better bed.  A recent online post tells the reader an uncomfortable bed or a bed that's too small might be the source of sleepless nights (Klein).  A new better bed is one of the best ways to get better sleep.
Are you stressed out sometimes?  A recent online article showed that newer beds resulted in a “significant decrease of stress”(5 Surprising Ways Your Mattress Affects Your Sleep and Health).  A new bigger bed can result in less stress.
Some people might argue that buying a new mattress is expensive.  However, there are ways you can get a mattress for a lower price.  A lot of people don't think about mattresses on holidays, but mattresses are actually cheaper on white sales and holidays in July or May(Strutter).  Also, buying a new mattress has benefits like a decrease in stress and better sleep.
If people don't start buying new mattresses, they could experience more stress.  Also, people could start experiencing lots of sleepless nights! What are people doing?  Stop, and get that new mattress now!

Family Time By Hina P.

She spends time with her family every day and does well in school, on the other hand her friend doesn’t spend any time with her family and does poorly in school. Do you notice something? When kids spend more time with family we see benefits. Kids should spend more time with their families. It helps with behavior, grades in school, and living a longer healthier life.

Spending time with family can influence kids’ behavior. As stated in A Wise Investment: Benefits of Families Spending Time Together, “Youths who communicate, do activities and have close relationships with their parents are less likely to engage in violence” (2016). When kids are serene they have less behavior issues. The more time kids spend with family the less likely they are to get into big trouble.

Not only does family time help with behavior, it also helps with kids getting good grades in school. Mothers who always communicate with their children are correlated with their children's educational success (“A Wise Investment: Benefits from Families Spending Time Together”). Parents who help with homework and are involved in school activities lead their children to have good academic success because the child knows he or she is supported by family. Additionally, the parents will know what is going on in their child’s school life. Clearly spending time with family can help in a child’s academic success.

Spending time together with family strengthens family bonds. Together activities can be playing a board game, preparing meals together, gardening, or playing outdoors. These activities can lead to healthier living choices in which your kids can live a longer healthier life (“A Wise Investment: Benefits from Families Spending Time Together”). Evidently family time is beneficial because family members feel a closer emotional bond with each other.

Some people might argue that too much family time means not enough alone time. However, it's really about time moderation. For example, playing a game of cards only takes about 10 minutes. Playing cards is a good way to spend time with your family that is low cost and requires just a short amount of time. This would still ensure that you have some alone time. Family time in moderation can be beneficial.

If children don't spend quality time with their family, they could be missing out on many benefits, such as: academic success, strong emotional bonds, healthier life choices, and better behavior skills. It is best to spend time with family.
